Tom Mozer sent photos of the Windy Pass burned area including Treasure Mtn. Trail. Tom wants folks to know that the trail is cleared and open to the public.
These photos do give one pause for thought. We are going to have to face a new reality, 20,000 plus acres of our prime hiking and hunting space is changed forever. We are going to have to react to this burn and plot a new future.
On these pages in the near future your editor will begin plotting ways to promote our burned area. This may seem like turning a “sow’s ear into a silk purse” , but this situation requires new thinking. There is an educational and tourism market for an opportunity to witness first hand a forest rejuvenating after a burn. “Come back every year or two and watch a new forest develope” might be a promotion of the future. There are grants to be obtained and material to be constructed. Outfitters will be needed to escort the public by horseback. It will take a long time to have the trail system back and safe so we can start small and work with it.
The time to think and begin acting is now. Watch here for future articles on this subject.
BTW, if you look carefully you can just see some green under the burned trees, it is going to be magnificent!
