PATC – March Workshop Offerings

Winter is not yet over, an ideal time to spend learning skills for the upcoming outdoor season. We have two upcoming workshops that are open to the public. Reservations are required.

March 9, 2017; from 1700 to 2100
Planning and Implementing a Trail Project Workshop
Meeting Location:
Pagosa Springs Visitor Center Conference Room
Workshop Summary: Trail work experience should be a good experience. Volunteers look to the Crew Leader to share with them tools and tricks to make their experience positive and valuable. This workshop is an overview of what to do before offering a project to the general public and how to assure volunteers will return time and time again. We will focus on preparation tasks before traveling to the trailhead and what to do as the crew leader once in the field. Topics include: Characteristics of an Effective Leader, 10 Essentials, Plan Ahead and Prepare, Risk Management Plans, and Trailhead to Trailhead Leadership.
Rate: $15 per person

Wilderness First Aid Workshop
Meeting Location:
Pagosa Springs Fire Station, North Pagosa Blvd
Workshop Summary: This 16-hour Wilderness First Aid training provides a solid foundation in the basics
of backcountry medical care. The course is designed to meet the needs of first-aid training for anyone who works, travels, or spends time in rural or wilderness areas. It provides intensive, in-depth training in the areas of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, patient assessment system, environmental injuries/ conditions, anaphylaxis, lifting/moving/extrication, patient carries, and backcountry medicine. The curriculum covers standards of care for trauma and medical patients for urban situations with additional protocols for remote situations. Emphasis is placed on prevention and decision-making.
Rate: WFA and CPR (Friday – Sunday) – $200 per person; WFA (Saturday and Sunday) – $175 per person; or CPR only (Friday) – $50 per person.
