As everyone knows, the entire Southwest is suffering a dry year and forest fires have sparked to life. The entire area has a light background layer of smoke and haze. The Pagosa Springs area has one of the smaller fires in its northeast corner. The ”West Fork Complex Fire” is producing smoke that normally blows to the northeast, over the divide and out of the area. This leaves a large area of National Forest and Wilderness with little to no smoke. The Town of Pagosa Springs, with its wide variety of recreation, is also usually free of direct smoke impact.
