Archuleta Scholarship in Escrow: Funding Higher Education in Pagosa Springs

A community-spirited scholarship program is in place at Pagosa Springs High School called the Archuleta Scholarship in Escrow Program. This program rewards high school students for earning A's and B's in core classes. Students earn $40 for a final grade of A and $20 for a B. The money is held in an escrow fund until the student graduates from high school.

After graduation the scholarships are sent directly to the college or vocational school where the student is enrolled. A major supporter of this program is the Archuleta County Board of REALTORS¨. Participating Realtors agree to contribute a set amount to the scholarship fund for every real estate closing they are involved in.

The Board of REALTORS¨ has contributed $53,000 to the fund over the past four years. The Board, along with matching funds from High Country Title and Colorado Land and Title, contributed more than $18,000 in 2000.
