THE CRUISE-A-THONG is a triathlon designed for the not-quite-hardcore athlete in all of us. The course takes approximately two hours and includes a cruiser bike tour of downtown Pagosa Springs, a thong (flip-flop) walk up the almost world famous Pagosa Springs Riverwalk and a tubing trip back down the San Juan River. The Winner will be the participant with the most average time taking into account bonus points for consumption of edibles, the subjective preferences of the judges, gears on the race bike in excess of 1, and any sandals lost during the race. There will be comfort stations at strategic points during the course. Participants are encouraged to bring their own beverages as the regular consumption of liquids is vital to a racer’s well-being.

See the official website here.

The Cruise-A-Thong is nothing if not colorful, check some of Pagosa's most colorful and fun loving folks.

The day starts at 9:00AM. with "Pagosa's 1st Best Booldy Mary Contest."

Yes, tables of Bloody Mary drinks and, yes, that was NINE AM.

Why not get things going with a smile!

The mostly trim and gaudy athletes gather at the start line.

Once the race was underway they crossed the town's new foot bridge.

Some flew!!! Naturally and in keeping with town regulations all the cans were filled with water and not the "real thing." The real thing was poured down as a chaser for the Bloody Mary Contest!

The grueling run down from Town Park to Town Hall had an elevation climb of three feet.

The rest stop and comfort station was a time for munchies, liquid and some cheers.

Before the sort-of-white-water leg of the race athletes went through mandatory "Itsy Bitsy Spider" recitation.

Including the climbing the web part.

The river run produced the most tubes on the river of the season.

And the color part continues with full dress and crown tubing.
