Health Care Reform Without Breaking the Bank
Friend —
With the debate on health care front and center, now is the time to deliver meaningful and fiscally-responsible reform that preserves choice, reduces costs and provides quality, affordable coverage for all Americans.
As we work through the details on how to fix health care in America, we need to keep in mind what folks in Colorado — folks I've heard from in every corner of our state — expect from health care reform.
They want us to leave alone the parts of the system that aren't broken. They want to have the choice to keep their health insurance if they like it. They want us to end soaring costs and double-digit increases in their premiums. And they agree that all Americans should have access to affordable, quality health care.
But what they also want is for Washington to deliver reform without breaking the bank. Coloradans want us to find a way to pay for reform now and not just saddle the next generation with increased deficits and debt.
That's a tall order, but it's the right one. And that's exactly what I told my colleagues today in a speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate.
In my remarks, I shared the stories of Coloradans who expect Washington to deliver on health care reform. Coloradans like Jeannie in Blanca, Ann in Golden, Teresa in Pueblo and millions of others just like them who want quality, affordable health care they can count on.
For these Coloradans — for their families, for their businesses — the system must change. For our nation's long-term prosperity, the system must change.
If we make the hard choices, we can provide better health care to all our citizens, a better economy, and a better future for our children and grandchildren.
Sincerely,
Michael F. Bennet U.S. Senator for Colorado |
