Baseball registration ends; youth tennis announced

Thursday, May 1 is the deadline to register for this year's youth baseball leagues; registrations are available at the recreation office and are available for download through the recreation department link at
www.townofpagosasprings.com.

Registrations should be submitted to the recreation office in Town Hall before 5 p.m. The office is accepting registrations for coach-pitch division, (ages 6, 7 and 8) and the 9- and 10-year-old division.

The office will also accept registrations for the 11-12 division and the 13-14 division, but if the number of registrations turned in is not sufficient to support leagues in these age brackets (at least two teams), registration fees will be refunded and the leagues will be canceled.

Cost to participate in the program is $25 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same, immediate family who participates. Team coaches and sponsors are needed and appreciated.

Games are tentatively scheduled to begin in late May; for more information, call the recreation office at 264-4151 Ext. 231 or 232.

Youth tennis

Thanks to a great deal of cooperation on behalf of Wyndham Resorts, the recreation department will be able to offer an expanded youth tennis program this year; the program will now be available to kids ages 5-13.

Three different sessions will be available this year, with the first session slated to begin in early June. In addition, a level-two division has been added for those who completed last year's program or have had previous experience.

This year's program will implement the United States Tennis Association's "Quick Start Tennis Instructional Program." This program follows a "play to learn" rather than "learn to play" philosophy. Smaller courts, smaller racquets and slower balls characterize the program.

Look for further details and registration dates in next week's column, or contact Andy Rice, recreation supervisor, at 264-4151 Ext. 231 for more information.

Tee-ball

The tee-ball schedule for the coming week includes the following:

Monday, May 5 -- White Sox vs. Royals on Field 1 and Rockies vs. Orioles on Field 2.
Wednesday, May 7 -- White Sox vs. Rockies on Field 1 and Royals vs. Orioles on Field 2.

Tee-ball schedules are available at the recreation office. Schedules can also be downloaded through the recreation department link at
www.townofpagosasprings.com.

All games are played outside Mondays and Wednesdays on the elementary school soccer fields at 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Games that cannot be played due to inclement weather will be rescheduled. The season will end in mid-May.

Park Fun

This year's Park Fun program for children ages 5-12 will be held Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.

Early registration will take place in late May at Town hall. The first day off Park Fun will begin Tuesday, June 3. The program runs through Thursday, July 31st.

The new home base is the Pagosa Springs Community Center, located adjacent to Town Hall on Hot Springs Boulevard.

Drop-offs (8 a.m.) and pick-ups (5 p.m.) will be made there each day. We are "on our way" by 9 a.m. each day and back by 4:30 p.m. Cell-phone contact is available all day, every day. Weekly schedules will be available each Friday for the following week.

Park Fun is a flexible program structured to meet your needs in every way. We have differentiated, age-based activities as well as a flexible sign-up plan.

You may enroll for a week at a time for a discounted rate of $100 per week for five-day care. This figure equates to $20 per day, or a mere $2 per hour for 10-hour daycare. In addition, a 50-percent discount is applied for siblings. The daily rate is $25 per day.

Campers pack their own lunches, water bottles and sunscreen; all other costs are included (except for special events).
