SJMA Recruiting Volunteers for Wilderness
San Juan Mountains Association in partnership with San Juan Public Lands is recruiting volunteers for the Wilderness Information Specialists (WIS) and Ghost Riders program. WIS and Ghost Riders promote public education in the Weminuche, Lizard Head and South San Juan Wilderness areas. Volunteers conduct public outreach and perform light trail work while hiking, backpacking or horseback riding on wilderness trails. The main program focus area is Needle Creek, ChicagoBasin and the West Fork of the San Juan for WIS and the PineRiver, Vallecito, and CrossMountain trails for Ghost Riders. Volunteers are selected on the basis of attitude, experience, skills and dedication. Training is provided. Interested volunteers must go through an interview process, attend all trainings and commit at to a minimum of 3 days during the season.
