This week we will experience high winds and dangerous fire conditions in Pagosa Country. Here are a few things to think about;
Do not make strong - fast burning wood stove fires if you have no filtration in your chimney.
Keep an eye on the horizon, watch for smoke. We are on the edge of possible thunder/lightening storms.
Now is not the time for campfires or outdoor cooking of any type.
There are a lot of pine needles on the ground right now. These needles fell in the snow all winter. Now the snow has melted making piles of dry material. Clear pin needles from around the home and anyplace that may have an ignition source.
Do not drive or park low cars over dry vegatation on the ground. The car's exaust system can ignite dry grass and weeds. The lower the vehicle the more likely this can happen.
Be very careful with wood stove and fireplace fires. Even a tiny ember escaping the chimney can start a fire in high wind conditions.
Do not do work that makes sparks as grinding metal or welding.
