Two major snowmobile riding areas have now been linked via a groomed trail. This is the longest ride in the area now, if one has the time and gas to do it all. This was a needed addition to the Pagosa snow trail system as it is a great place to ride and it takes pressure off the summit of Wolf Creek Pass.

West Fork Ski Track Open for Season.

With no new snow the trails are hard and crusty, please forgive Mother Nature.

New; 3/27/08

The gate at the West Fork has been closed by the Forest Service to protect the road during mud season. It is okay to go around the gate and down to the track.

West Fork Road (#648) is now closed at Highway 160. To access the National Forest, one can park at the highway and walk, snowshoe or ski the plowed road to the Forest boundary. Snowmobiles are not allowed on plowed roads.

Devil Mountain (#626) and Devil Creek Roads (#627) are closed.

West Fork is groomed and is in good shape.  Some width for ski skating and ski skating passing - the loops are single width.

The main trail is groomed two miles to the bridge. Part of this trail is groomed wide for ski skating. Other parts are narrow for classic skiing. The loops are groomed one lane wide with set ski tracks.

The West Fork Ski Track.  There is 2 miles on the main trail, wide enough for ski skating. The loops are groomed single width. The lower valley floor loop, blue on the left on map, is not open due to heavy flow in the river. Two lanes of track are set on the main trail and single track on the loops.

Notice, snowshoers please walk between and not on the ski tracks.

Want to lodge on the track? Click here

The Montes family from Orlando, Flordia try the West Fork Trail on snowshoes. They seemed to be loving the cold and snow but, I'll bet, dreaming of the warm beach!

There is a lot of recreation activity at the top of the pass. Snowmobilers on the southside and skiers on the north.

Varoom, and the snowmobilers disappear behind a wall of snow.
