Job Description
Assist aquatic conservation biologist in a variety of work projects with aquatic native species. Work emphasis will focus on eastern plains native fish inventory. Aquatic inventory will consist of collecting fish, mollusk, habitat and water chemistry data. Collection methods will primarily include electrofishing and seining. Additional duties could include involvement in amphibian surveys or other conservation related work. Work will require employees to carry backpack electrofishing units, operate four wheel drive vehicles, and wade in wetlands, streams and rivers while sampling. Employees should expect to occasionally work in adverse and physically demanding conditions involving long and irregular hours. Employees will frequently be out of town during the work week and overnight travel during these periods will be required. Meals and overnight lodging will be provided during these periods.
Minimum Requirements
Preference will be given to candidates with a college degree or coursework in aquatic, wildlife, or other biological sciences. Applicants must have or obtain a Colorado drivers license. While experience with fish sampling and identification are desirable, no great amount of field or lab experience is necessary. A willingness to learn, and a good attitude and work ethic are indispensable in this position. The ability to get along with other members of a large crew is also important. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access would be helpful, but is not required.
