Information About The Job:
DUTIES: This position serves as the Chief of Public Affairs for the Colorado Division of Wildlife. The position manages, supervises, and provides the general public, media outlets, other governmental entities, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders with information regarding Colorado's wildlife resources and the Colorado Division of Wildlife and its programs, regulations, and activities. The position is responsible for the management of all print, video, and electronic information activities including the production of information and regulation brochures, wildlife magazines, informational videos, internet websites, news releases, etc. The position manages the Division's call center which serves an important information link to various stakeholders, customers, and the general public regarding the opportunities to hunt, fish, and watch wildlife; as well as providing information regarding the activities, policies, and regulations of the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Duties will include working with a variety of communication formats including print and electronic media news releases, writing and editing brochures and magazine articles, preparing materials for websites, as well as preparing broadcast television and cable ready materials. The position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining media and stakeholder contacts required to provide timely and accurate release of information including responding to media and public requests for information. The position is responsible for making logistical arrangements for news conferences, dedications and other public events. The position will attend a variety of public and private forums and events and may on occasion represent the Division of Wildlife. The position performs a variety of tasks related to the public information function of a highly visible government agency with a number of interested and motivated stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, language arts, or other field closely related to the work assignment AND a minimum of five years of professional experience in electronic production (television programming, DVD production, etc.), print journalism, public relations, communications, or related professional field. Professional work experience must have included experience working with some form of natural resource/wildlife related publication, electronic media (must have included television experience), and closely related communication or media activity in an area related to the natural resources or wildlife fields. Work experience must have included at least three years of professional experience publishing a natural resources magazine and supervising professional communications or public relations staff. Experience must have included a high level of program management responsibilities that included establishment of program goals and objectives, establishing and administering budgets, setting work standards for the assigned program area. Special Note: Applications must clearly document the stated work experience requirements. Necessary Special Requirement: Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and operate state-owned vehicles in the course of performing statewide travel which is required. Former employees of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources must have concluded employment in good standing to be eligible for rehire. SUBSTITUTIONS: A combination of work experience in the occupational field or specialized subject area of the work assigned to the job, which provided the same kind, amount and level of knowledge acquired in the required education, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree.
