West Fork Nordic Image Guide

By Norm Vance | Jan 14, 2007

Just under the scenic overlook, the West Fork IS the scenery!

In this view from Google Earth the West Fork and Wolf Creek form the headwaters of the San Juan River. The ski track is outlined in red.

This panorama taken from the highway displays approximately where the trail starts, red dot, and the direction it follows up the magnificent West Fork Valley, red arrow.

The Main Trail is groomed wide for side by side skiing or ski skating. The loops are single lane for a more intimate, through the woods, experience. Ski track is set on the Main Trail and the Main Loop. The "Better Skier Loop and Trail," beyond the bridge, has steep sections and access to the valley floor is rough.  Under deep snow conditions there is sometimes a connection from the Main Loop, in the area of the picnic table, across the river to the Better Skier Loop. If ice and firm snow forms a bridge, the crossing is easy. BE CAREFUL and test the snow.

Thetrail starts with our "Welcome to the West Fork" sign. Just around the corner the set tracks expand to two lanes as shown below.

Planet Earth does not get better than this!

There are few places more enchanting than the West Fork.
