Pagosa Springs is the county seat of Archuleta County. Archuleta County is located in southwest Colorado approximately 30 miles west of Wolf Creek Pass, near the headwaters of the San Juan River. The county is rectangular in shape and covers 1,364 square miles. Approximately 50 percent of the land in the county is owned or controlled by the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, approximately 15 percent is owned by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and the remaining 35 percent is privately owned.
